Baseline, reassess, compare

  • WorkCover Queensland's Mental Health Services Table of Costs describes what a psychology consultation for an injured worker should include: an objective assessment "using standardised outcome measurements to provide a base line" before treatment starts, then reassessment with outcome measures compared against that baseline and the treatment goals. The tools should be reliable, valid and sensitive to change.

Queensland's public services, run through 16 Hospital and Health Services, collect the national outcome set (HoNOS, LSP-16 and the Kessler scales), which HiBoop does not offer. HiBoop is for the measurement private and community clinicians run themselves: the DASS-21, PHQ-9, GAD-7 and PCL-5, sent between sessions and kept on one chart per client.

  • A baseline before treatment

Send the first scale before the initial consultation, so the starting point is on file from day one.

  • Reassess on a schedule

Set scales to go out at set weeks, so reassessment happens without anyone remembering to ask.

  • Compared against the start

Every score sits on one chart with the baseline, ready for a Provider Management Plan or a GP report.

Built for the way Queensland clinicians report

  • Repeat measurement that feeds a GP report, a WorkCover plan or a team review without extra typing.

  • Scales between sessions

Send the DASS-21, PHQ-9, GAD-7 or PCL-5 before each session or at set weeks, by email or QR code.

  • Scored on submission

Totals and severity bands are calculated the moment the client finishes, so the result is waiting when you open the file.

  • Baseline kept on file

The first score is pinned to the start of the chart, so every reassessment is compared against it.

  • Reports for referrers and insurers

Intake, mid-point and latest scores on one page, for a GP report or a Provider Management Plan.

  • One published price list

Care is $36 AUD/month for one clinician, month to month. Team starts at $285 AUD/month with unlimited clinicians. Network is custom. Published prices in Australian dollars.

  • Made for distance

Clients answer on any phone browser, so a check-in reaches Mount Isa as easily as South Brisbane.

Research from Queensland

  • Routine outcome measurement

In routine outcome data from 3,098 children and adolescents treated at Brisbane community Child and Youth Mental Health Services from 2013 to 2018, scores improved with effect sizes around 0.9, yet about half still scored in the clinical range at the end of treatment.

Lu et al., Early Intervention in Psychiatry, 2022 PMID 35114734

  • Kessler scales (K10/K5)

Across 1,202 clients of Royal Flying Doctor Service mental health services in Far North and Central West Queensland, mean Kessler scores fell from 23.7 to 18.0 by the final consultation; the scale was not offered to 41% of clients, judged not culturally appropriate.

Gardiner et al., Lancet Regional Health Western Pacific, 2022 PMID 35540562

  • DASS-21 and HoNOS

In a seven-site Hospital and Health Service program for 84 mothers with moderate to severe perinatal mental illness and their infants, HoNOS and DASS-21 scores improved with medium to large effect sizes.

Irvine et al., Infant Mental Health Journal, 2021 PMID 34170035

  • PHQ-9

At an Aboriginal community-controlled health service in Yarrabah, an adapted PHQ-9 used in young people's health checks was well accepted by staff and youth and led to prompt referral for one in five with moderate to severe symptoms.

Harriss et al., Australian Journal of Primary Health, 2018 PMID 30089528

  • HoNOS

In 124 patients in rural Queensland followed for a year, HoNOS and Mental Health Inventory scores improved equally for those seen by telepsychiatry and those seen face to face.

Kennedy and Yellowlees, Journal of Telemedicine and Telecare, 2003 PMID 12641887

    Medicare

Better Access pays for up to 10 individual sessions a calendar year with a psychologist (MBS 80110) or clinical psychologist (MBS 80010), after a GP mental health treatment plan (MBS 2715 or 2717). Queensland's seven Primary Health Networks commission further services rather than run them, and those services report the Kessler 10+ for adults to the national PMHC data set.

  • WorkCover Queensland and the NDIS

    Insurance

For a work-related psychological injury not treated before, the psychology initial consultation needs no prior approval and the first six hours are pre-approved; more treatment needs a Provider Management Plan. The NDIS funds psychosocial recovery support, not clinical treatment; a recovery coach works alongside the treating team.

  • What the rules expect of your service

    • Private practices: meet the Australian Privacy Principles; health service providers are covered whatever their turnover
    • Before health information goes overseas, take reasonable steps so the recipient handles it to APP standard (APP 8)
    • Queensland agencies: follow the Queensland Privacy Principles and notify eligible data breaches to affected people and the Information Commissioner
    • Agencies must take reasonable steps so contracted service providers follow the same principles
    • Give clients access to their records and correct them on request
  • Where HiBoop helps

    • SOC 2 Type II certified; data encrypted in transit and at rest
    • Hosted on Google Cloud in the US or Canada, with other regions on request; ask before you start

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Do the Queensland Privacy Principles apply to my private practice?

Generally not directly. Queensland's Information Privacy Act 2009 binds Queensland government agencies, which have followed the Queensland Privacy Principles since 1 July 2025; agencies must take reasonable steps so their contracted service providers follow them too. A private practice is covered by the Commonwealth Privacy Act 1988 and its Australian Privacy Principles. HiBoop makes no claim of compliance with either law; check your own position with the Office of the Information Commissioner or the OAIC.

  • Can HiBoop support WorkCover Queensland reporting?

It can carry the measurement. WorkCover Queensland's Mental Health Services Table of Costs asks for a baseline with standardised outcome measurements and reassessment against it, and for a Provider Management Plan when treatment goes past the pre-approved hours. HiBoop keeps the baseline and every later score on one chart with PDF export. It names no specific scale, so which validated measures you use is your clinical decision; HiBoop does not file plans for you.

  • Does HiBoop offer the Kessler 10, HoNOS or LSP-16?

No. HiBoop does not offer the Kessler 10, HoNOS or LSP-16. Queensland public services collect those for the national outcomes collection, and PHN-commissioned services report the Kessler 10+ through their own systems. HiBoop offers the DASS-21, PHQ-9, GAD-7, PCL-5 and other validated scales for the measurement you run in your own practice.

  • Which numbers can I give a client between sessions?

In an emergency, 000. 1300 MH CALL, 1300 642 255, is a confidential 24/7 line that links callers to their nearest Queensland public mental health service. Lifeline, 13 11 14, offers 24-hour crisis support. Medicare Mental Health (formerly Head to Health), 1800 595 212, is a weekday line for advice and referral, not a crisis service. HiBoop is not a crisis service.
