Follow-Up with Rating Scales for Swedish Care Teams
Sweden's national care pathway for adult depression asks services to measure change over time with a self-rating scale such as the PHQ-9. HiBoop gives a regional clinic, a private provider or a psychologist in practice 100+ validated scales, scored on submission and charted visit by visit.
Measurement written into the care pathway
The person-centred care pathway for depression in adults, approved by the national program area for mental health (NPO psykisk hälsa) in September 2023, tells services to use the MADRS-S or PHQ-9 to judge severity and to measure change over time and treatment outcome. It suggests a first follow-up about two weeks after treatment starts, continuous evaluation with the patient after that, and tracks the share of patients whose MADRS-S has improved after three months.
Sweden already collects patient-reported measures. In the OECD's 2021 benchmark it was, as of 2018, one of five of the 12 countries surveyed that reported regular collection of patient-reported outcomes and experiences in mental health settings, and its national quality registers follow ECT and internet treatment with patient-reported scales. HiBoop puts that routine in reach of any clinic or private practice.
Early first check
Schedule a PHQ-9 for two weeks after treatment starts, as the pathway suggests, and every few weeks after.
Answered by the patient
Self-rating scales go out by email or QR, so clients fill them in at home before the visit.
Change you can show
Scores build a line per client, ready for the evaluation the pathway asks you to do together.
Follow-up without the paperwork
Rating scales sent, scored and charted, so a clinic can follow every patient the pathway's way.
Self-rating at home
Send the PHQ-9, GAD-7, PCL-5 or another scale by email or QR, timed to the follow-ups you plan.
Scored when submitted
Each total and severity band is ready as soon as the client presses send.
One line per client
Start, two-week, three-month and six-month scores sit on the same chart for the follow-up conversation.
Clinic or private practice
A psychologist on their own, or a whole clinic with shared scales and access set by role.
Published prices
Care is $25 USD/month for one clinician, month to month. Team starts at $200 USD/month with unlimited clinicians. Network is custom. Published prices in US dollars.

Research from Sweden
Routine care, MADRS-S
In all 1,203 patients who received guided internet CBT for depression at an outpatient psychiatric clinic providing internet-based treatment between 2007 and 2013, MADRS-S scores improved from before to after treatment with an effect size of d = 1.27, and the gains held at six months.
Hedman et al., Journal of Affective Disorders, 2014 PMID 24238951
MADRS-S
Among 1,286 patients with major depressive disorder at Sweden's largest outpatient internet psychiatry unit, the MADRS-S showed acceptable reliability but weak scalability, and a seven-item version performed better.
Johansson et al., Journal of Affective Disorders, 2025 PMID 40482678
PHQ-9
In 737 Swedish primary care patients and psychiatric outpatients reporting depressive symptoms, the PHQ-9 and the HADS both had high internal consistency (alpha 0.9), though agreement between them at recommended cut-offs was low to moderate.
Hansson et al., British Journal of General Practice, 2009 PMID 19761655
PCL-5
In 248 trauma-exposed adults assessed with the CAPS-5, the Swedish PCL-5 was a reliable and valid PTSD screening tool, with threshold scores of 31 to 33 giving the best balance of sensitivity and specificity in this preliminary estimate.
Bondjers et al., European Journal of Psychotraumatology, 2026 PMID 42635035
Quality register, MADRS-S
Using the Swedish National Quality Register for ECT (2011 to 2018), 75.6% of the 1,178 patients with suicidal ideation on the MADRS-S before ECT no longer showed it at the end of treatment.
Sienaert et al., Acta Psychiatrica Scandinavica, 2022 PMID 35279825

GDPR and Patientdatalagen: what they ask of a care provider
Patientdatalagen (2008:355) applies to a care provider's processing of personal data in health care and complements the GDPR. IMY supervises. As the care provider (vårdgivare), you carry these duties; here is what to check with a vendor.
What the rules expect of your service
- Keep a patient record for every patient, and keep record entries at least ten years after the last one
- Set the conditions for staff access, limited to what each person needs for their work
- Check systematically and regularly whether anyone has accessed patient data without authorization
- Treat health data as a special category under Article 9 of the GDPR and sign a personuppgiftsbiträdesavtal with each processor
- Document the transfer mechanism if a vendor stores data outside the EU
Where HiBoop helps
- SOC 2 Type II certified; data is encrypted in transit and at rest
- GDPR compliant; your service remains the controller and HiBoop acts as its processor
- Hosted on Google Cloud in the US or Canada by default; Google's Stockholm region on request
- Access by role, so each clinician sees only their own clients
- Scores export as PDF or CSV for your patient record
- HiBoop makes no Patientdatalagen claim; ask for our security documentation for your own risk analysis

Frequently Asked Questions
Does HiBoop fit the care pathway for depression in adults?
It handles the PHQ-9 side of it. The pathway names the MADRS-S or PHQ-9 for judging severity and measuring change, with a first follow-up about two weeks after treatment starts. HiBoop sends, scores and charts the PHQ-9 on the schedule you set. It does not offer the MADRS-S, so a service that has standardized on that scale should keep using it.
Can HiBoop replace 1177 Stöd och behandling?
No, and it is not built to. 1177 is the regions' shared platform for online treatment and patient contact. HiBoop is a measurement tool: it sends validated scales between visits and charts the results, for a clinic or private provider that wants its own routine for follow-up.
Where is patient data hosted, and what about the GDPR and Patientdatalagen?
HiBoop is hosted on Google Cloud in the US or Canada by default; Google has a region in Stockholm, and hosting there can be arranged on request. HiBoop is SOC 2 Type II certified, and HiBoop is GDPR compliant, acting as your processor. As the care provider and controller, your service holds the duties under the GDPR and Patientdatalagen, so include the hosting region, the processor agreement and the transfer basis in your own risk analysis. We can share our security documentation.
Which scales have Swedish studies looked at?
Swedish studies cover the PHQ-9 in primary care and psychiatric outpatients and the Swedish PCL-5 in trauma-exposed adults; HiBoop offers both, along with the GAD-7. The research section on this page lists each study, including work on the MADRS-S, which HiBoop does not offer.
